What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for sharing and distributing Web content, such as news headlines. Using an RSS reader, you can view data feeds from various Web sites, such as www.fairfield-city.org, including headlines, summaries, and links to full stories. The City of Fairfield uses RSS 2.0.

Our RSS feeds contain headlines, summaries, and links back to pages on www.fairfield-city.org. Currently, our RSS feeds include upcoming events and the latest news and updates to our site.

How do I access RSS feeds?

There are a number of ways to get RSS feeds. You can install a program called a news reader, or news aggregator, to collect and display RSS from sources you pick. After installing a news reader, you can add feeds one at a time by clicking on the "Subscribe" or the "XML" orange button next to the feed. A number of news readers are available, most at no cost. Many vary in form and function, so you may want to try a few before picking one. Google lists many news aggregators you can download.

Many aggregators are separate, "stand-alone" programs; other services will let you add RSS feeds to a Web page. Yahoo! users can add RSS feeds to your My Yahoo! page; to make this easier, you can click on the "Add to My Yahoo!" button to the right of each links below.
