Fairfield delivers high-quality public services at highly competitive tax rates for our businesses.
Income Tax: The city collects a 1.5% income tax on the gross wages of employees and net profits of businesses operating within the city. Businesses are required to register with the city when opening a business location. For registration and more information, visit our Income Tax Division page.
Property Tax: Fairfield offers relatively low property tax rates, currently set at 62.835 mills for properties within the Fairfield City School District. Other jurisdictions, including those without income tax, charge higher rates. Tax abatements may be considered for companies making a significant capital investment resulting in new job and payroll creation.
These tax rates combine with the low rates for water and sewer service provided by the city's Public Utilities Department to create a very attractive place to do business.
