Residents interested in the Parks & Recreation Board or Planning Commission must reside in the First Ward. These are partial terms that will commence upon appointment by Council and expire on March 31, 2019. The Tax Board of Appeals appointments are two-year terms. Application deadline is Oct. 27, 2017.
Some of the duties of the Parks and Recreation Board are: determine programs and activities of the City regarding parks and recreation; authorize monies and award contracts for the operation and maintenance of the City’s parks and recreation programs; adopt rules and regulations and systems of streets, boulevards, or parkways as the Board believes to be in the best interest of the efficient and orderly use and operation of the City’s parks and recreation areas.

Appointees to the Tax Board of Appeals must not be employees, elected officials or contractors with the City currently or five years preceding their term. Also, a board member cannot serve on another board simultaneously. There is no set meeting schedule, but the board would meet after appointment and within 60 days of when a tax appeal is filed with the Tax Administrator, which is rare.
