After a recruitment and selection process that started last November, Fairfield Police Lt. Stephen B. Maynard has been chosen as the next Police Chief for the City of Fairfield. His official start date is February 26, 2018.
“I am pleased to announce that Lt. Maynard has been selected from a pool of nine candidates to succeed Mike Dickey as our City’s new chief,” said Mark Wendling, City Manager. “Steve has risen through the ranks and evolved into an outstanding leader and law enforcement professional. He and I share a common vision of the future for the Department.”
Lt. Maynard’s service began with the Department in 1999 as an officer. He was promoted to sergeant in 2008 and then lieutenant in 2015. Most recently commander of the Department’s day-to-day operations, he has been overseeing patrol officers, park rangers, and animal control officers. He has also served as a detective, field training officer, firearms instructor, and member of the Hamilton-Fairfield SWAT Team. In 2014, Lt. Maynard was awarded the Police Medal for leadership in a dangerous tactical situation.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Ashland University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Lt. Maynard is also a graduate of the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and Northwestern University Center for Public Safety in Evanston, Illinois.
“Our Police leaders and officers have been focused on developing and maintaining a good relationship with the citizens of Fairfield whom we are responsible to protect and serve,” said Lt. Maynard. “I am dedicated to this community and very much look forward to leading the Department’s continued strong service to residents.”
Selection and assessment of the candidates who were in the running for Police Chief was conducted by the Ohio Association of Chief’s of Police. The field of nine was narrowed to five who were interviewed by a panel consisting of a resident and business leader, a local police chief, the Assistant City Manager, and the City Manager.
