Construction is set to begin on the City’s first dog park that will also function as a future trailhead for the proposed extension of the Great Miami River Trail. The public is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate this milestone on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at 9 a.m. 

The groundbreaking will be held at the undeveloped site of the park at 6611 River Road.  A banner is posted near the future entrance. Those who are driving are encouraged to park at Marsh Lake to take a shuttle to the construction site due to the rustic nature of the land.  City vans will begin shuttling at 8:30 a.m. and will end at 9:30 a.m.

“Over the past decade, pets have become more cherished within the American family,” said Tiphanie Howard, the City’s Parks and Recreation Director. “With more pet owners embracing their dogs as a member of the household, the community called for a public open space where they could spend time with the ENTIRE family, including Fido. The City is answering that call with this exciting opportunity for the Fairfield community to enjoy an open space where they can interact with each other in an all-inclusive setting.”

Planned features of the 6.5 acre park include a 100't x 80' pond with a dock and zero-entry edge, multiple fields with a separate small dog play area, shaded gathering spaces, and plentiful parking. The park is located between Lake Circle Drive and Gray Road adjacent to Martin Marietta’s quarry lake.

Land for the park was purchased from Martin Marietta several years ago with a Clean Ohio Grant from the State of Ohio. The park is expected to open in the summer of 2019.  For more information, visit www.fairfieldoh.gov/Dog-Park-Trailhead
