There are currently (11) paramedics from across all three unit days assigned to the SWAT team. This ensures that medics are available 24/7 to respond to SWAT call-outs in Hamilton and Fairfield. Occasionally the team does get called into other jurisdictions to assist other police agencies and SWAT teams. To date, six of the medics on the team have completed the Advanced Tactical Operations Medical Specialist or ATOMS training at the Ohio Fire Academy. This rigorous course covers 80+ hours of classroom and field training exercises that teach the medics how to quickly and safely perform emergency medical treatment under difficult circumstances. Medics also participate in monthly trainings with the entire SWAT team.
