Duties & Functions
The City of Fairfield Sustainability Commission shall serve as an advisory body to the Council for the purpose of meeting the mission and goals established in Fairfield’s Sustainability Plan called “Fairfield Sustains” as originally approved and adopted by Council on September 9, 2024 as the same may be amended from time to time and specifically to:
- Advise Council and make recommendations regarding measures to ensure that Fairfield is maximizing its resources in a way that provides efficiency in City operations now and in the future.
- Advise Council and make recommendations regarding environmental, economic, and livability considerations in the City, and serve as a catalyst for quality of life improvements for all residents.
- Advise Council and make recommendations on the five frameworks of “Fairfield Sustains” and their associated projects: 1.) Mobility and Transportation, 2.) Buildings and Energy, 3.) Resource Conservation, 4.) Nature and Green Community, 5.) Business and Community Resilience.
- Advise Council and make recommendations on the implementation and revisions of “Fairfield Sustains”.
- Educate and engage the public by promoting the five frameworks of “Fairfield Sustains” and making relevant resources readily available.
- Collaborate with civic groups to leverage their resources including volunteer hours, business connections for sponsorships and partnerships, and expertise in identifying grant funding.
