Crime Statistics

The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program generates reliable statistics for use in law enforcement.

It includes data from more than 18,000 city, university and college, county, state, tribal and federal law enforcement agencies. The UCR Program collects data from three sources: the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), the Hate Crime Statistics program, and the Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA) program.

The Fairfield Police Department reports criminal offenses to the UCR Program utilizing the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

NIBRS was implemented to improve the overall quality of crime data collection by law enforcement. It captures details on each single crime incident—as well as on separate offenses within the same incident—including information on victims, known offenders, relationships between victims and offenders, arrestees, and property involved in crimes.

Residents wishing to obtain more information about the UCR Program may visit the website here.

You may also visit the FBI's Crime Data Explorer (CDE), the digital front door for UCR data. This new interactive online tool enables users to more easily access and understand the massive amount of data collected. Within the tool, users can view charts and graphs that break down data in a variety of ways.
